Janet Culpitt Biography
Written on the 22 January 2014 by ArrowJanet Culpitt grew up as the daughter of a Bank Manager, whose employment involved moving residence every 2 years across NSW country branches. She learnt early on how to adjust to meeting new people and becoming a part of a new community. At various locations she had to board away from home to attend High School which added another experience for her to adapt to. Janet always enjoyed her schooling though and was actively involved in both team sports and academic projects. She graduated as School Captain and Prefect was offered acceptance into various Universities. She studied Economics and had a goal to be a teacher.
She deferred studies and was accepted as a University Graduate into the Banking Industry. She worked her way through many roles, including Human Resource, Compliance, Staff Training and Branch Management in Sydney, Tweed Shire and eventually Gold Coast Qld once married.
She put her Banking Career on hold to have her children, a daughter and a son. Personal circumstances saw her having to return to work earlier than anticipated and she accepted a casual role in retail which later resulted in store management. During that time though Janet was actively involved in her children’s education and was always on a committee , a P&C , tuck shop duties and extra curricular activities such as their dance and sports.
Approached to re-join the Bank she soon held senior roles at various Gold Coast Branches before diversifying into insurance advice and Business Banking roles. After being a victim in numerous armed hold ups, Janet decided to re-assess her future, and with her new husband’s (Steve) approval left the Bank handling his compliance and paperwork so as to free up his time for clients, and also began working with a Finance Broker in an administration role.
Janet and Steve (who had added 2 daughters to her family) managed to raise their 4 children, help with their aged parents and form their own business in 1999 for Financial and Insurance Consultations, based on the values and experiences they had each shared.
Once the children had grown up and left home Janet became a little bored with just Admin. Role in the business, yes she suffered “empty nest syndrome” and decided to go out and join a Networking Group and meet new people.
She initially joined Success Women’s Network and in just over a year is now one of their Pink Belt Coaches, helping other women to grow their business and achieve their goals. She has since become the first member and Local Director for the Australian arm of BforB , a business networking group formed on the Gold Coast , based it’s high success in both UK and Europe .Janet regularly attends many other events and is well known around the networking scene and has some amazing contacts as such.
She quickly realised that she could achieve good referrals for their business through networking if done the correct way. Janet’s role has grown from Business Manager to include being the “Rain Maker” for their business proving her expertise and natural ability to meet new contacts and develop relationships that result in both new business and continued growth for all parties.
A newspaper article led Janet to a struggling local community organization due to lack of members, an aging base with no new members. She became involved, the group achieved much media coverage and at the next annual meeting Janet was elected President and led that branch to a have a membership base of close to 50 and raising over $5,000 in the process.
